Motion Detector Sensitivity
Table of Contents
By default, your motion sensor is designed not to detect pets under 30 lbs — but we know every home (and pet!) is unique. Here’s how to adjust your sensor to better suit your furry companions.
Adjusting Pet Sensitivity
If your pet is triggering the alarm or you want added flexibility, you can change the sensor’s pet sensitivity level:
To Adjust for Larger Pets:
- Open the back cover of the motion detector
- Locate the PET pin
- Remove the pin from the “55 lbs” jumper
- Place it on the “33 lbs” jumper
This helps the sensor better ignore pets up to 33 lbs instead of the default 55 lbs setting.
Adjusting Motion Sensitivity
By default, the motion detector is set to HIGH sensitivity, meaning it reacts more easily to movement. You can change this for more selective detection:
To Reduce Sensitivity:
- Open the back cover of the motion detector
- Locate the SENS pin
- Remove the pin from the “HIGH” jumper
- Place it on the “LOW” jumper
Great for minimizing false alarms in high-traffic or pet-friendly areas.
Pro Tip: Distance Matters
Even small pets can trigger the sensor if they’re close enough.
For example:
- A 10 lb cat at 40 feet likely won't be detected
- That same cat at 10 feet could trigger the motion sensor
