Understanding & Testing Your Motion Sensor
Your motion sensor plays a key role in protecting your home, and it's smartly designed to save battery life while staying alert.
How It Works
Our motion sensors are battery-powered and built for efficiency. When motion is detected:
- The sensor sends a signal to your panel
- Then it enters a 3-minute sleep mode to preserve battery life
Tip: During this time, the sensor won’t detect movement — this is normal, not a malfunction.
How to Test Your Motion Sensor
Option 1: Quick & Easy LED Test
Use the LED on your panel to confirm your sensor is working:
- Make sure your system is disarmed
- Do not walk in front of the motion sensor for 3 minutes (to let it "wake up")
- Walk in front of it — the panel’s home button will flash yellow when motion is detected
This helps confirm your sensor is detecting movement and shows you its detection range.
Option 2: Tamper Button Test
You can also test the sensor manually:
- Press the small button on the right side of the sensor
- Your panel will announce the sensor’s name, followed by “tampered”, confirming it’s communicating properly
Option 3: Full Alarm Test (Advanced)
Want to test the full alarm response?
- Arm your system in Away Mode
- If arming from the panel:
- Be sure to open and close an exterior door during the 60-second countdown
- If not, the system will default to Stay Mode, and motion sensors will be off
(This step isn't required if using the app or key fob)
- Wait 3 minutes before moving in front of the sensor
- Walk in front of the sensor — your alarm will sound
- Disarm the system promptly
- Be ready to answer your phone — our Monitoring Station may call to confirm your safety (have your verbal passcode ready)
