Loss of Supervision Door/Window Sensors
Table of Contents
If you're seeing a "Loss of Supervision" alert from a door or window sensor, don’t worry; this just means your system is having trouble communicating with one of your sensors. Let’s get it working again with a few simple steps.
What Causes This?
Your system checks regularly to make sure all sensors are communicating properly. A "Loss of Supervision" message can be triggered by:
- Low battery in the sensor
- Sensor damage or malfunction
- Interference from walls, large metal objects, mirrors, fish tanks, or other barriers
- The sensor being too far from the panel
Step by Step Instructions
Important: Please do not reset your panel during this process.
Step 1: Check for Distance or Interference
- Move your panel temporarily closer to the sensor (within 10–20 feet).
- Test the sensor to see if it reconnects.
- Wait 48 hours to monitor if the issue is resolved.
Step 2: Remove & Re-add the Sensor
Still having trouble? Try removing and re-adding the sensor:
If the error persists after re-adding, continue to Step 3.
Step 3: Replace the Battery
- Remove the old battery and wait 30–40 seconds.
- Insert a new battery and test the sensor again.
- Allow 48 hours to see if the connection stabilizes.
