Door/Window Sensor False Alarms
Table of Contents
To avoid false alarms and keep your system performing at its best, it’s important to regularly test and maintain your sensors. A low battery or loose sensor can trigger unwanted alerts, but the fix is usually quick and easy!
What to Check
-
Sensor & Magnet Placement
- Ensure both parts are securely mounted.
- The gap between the sensor and the magnet should be no more than 1 inch when the door or window is closed.
-
Door/Window Stability
- Make sure the door or window doesn’t shift or rattle when closed. Excessive movement can cause false triggers.
-
Installation Environment
- Sensors should be installed indoors, away from large metal appliances.
- Avoid areas with extreme heat, cold, or moisture — a climate-controlled space is best.
-
Battery Health
- Replace batteries with 2 x CR2032 if they haven’t been changed recently.
- After replacing, monitor for any changes.
It is important to regularly test and maintain all system sensors. A low battery or abnormal damage to the sensor can cause irregular activity.
