Installing Window Sensors
Before you begin, make sure your Window Sensor has been added to your alarm system through your control panel. Once that’s done, you're ready to install!
Ideal Installation Spots

Best Practices for Placement
- Magnet: Install on the part of the window that moves or slides
- Sensor: Install on the window frame
If the window frame is too narrow, reverse the setup:
Place the magnet on the frame and the sensor on the window.
- Make sure the semi-circles on both pieces are aligned
- Pieces must be within 1 inch of each other (ideally ¾ inch or less)
- Mounting at a 90° angle is okay, as long as the distance is right

Avoid These Common Mistakes
To ensure accurate detection and long-term reliability, do NOT install the sensor:
- In non-climate-controlled areas (e.g., garages, attics)
- Directly on metal or aluminum surfaces
- With the sensor and magnet more than 1 inch apart
Mounting on metal? Use a plastic spacer or magnetic tape for better performance.
How to Install Your Window Sensor
- Clean the mounting surfaces (window and frame)
- Peel off the adhesive backing on both pieces
- Align and place the sensor and magnet as described above
- Press firmly on each piece for 30 seconds to ensure a solid hold
- Test the sensor using your alarm panel to confirm it's detecting properly
