Testing the Water Leak Detector
This sensor has the ability to detect flooding, and freezing temperatures. If you are unsure of whether or not it will operate in an actual event, you can try these tests at home. Please note that your alarm may trip and you will receive notifications of the temperature or flooding and you will get a phone call to indicate the alert but no dispatch will be sent for these alarms. To Test the Flood Function Place the sensor in a bathtub or a small container and run some water until the water makes contact with the sensor. Once the sensor has triggered a flood alarm, remove the sensor and dry it off with a towel. Allow up to 24 hours for drying to ensure the sensor is completely dry before placing it back in its desired location. To Test the Freeze Function Place the sensor in a freezer for 15 minutes. This should simulate the lower temperature threshold and trigger an alarm.…Read More -
Changing the Battery in your Water Leak Detector
If you have received a Water Leak Detector “Low Battery” notification on your panel, you will need to replace the battery promptly to ensure the device continues to function properly. Information to order replacements can be found in our article, How to Order Replacement Batteries. How to Replace Battery Disarm your Cove panel before you begin this process Remove the rubber feet on the bottom of the sensor Remove the screws and the casing Pay close attention to the orientation of the (+) and (-) sides of the battery in the button Place the new CR2450 battery in the sensor Reassemble the casing, screws, and rubber feet on the bottom of the sensor…Read More -
Water Leak Detector Loss of Supervision
Loss of supervision means that your sensor(s) are not communicating with your Hub properly. Your Hub will alert you whenever it loses connection with any of your sensors. To resolve your Loss of Supervision, please refer to this article.…Read More -
Water Leak Detector Tampering
The Water Leak Detector has a tamper function on the inside of the sensor that will send a tamper signal when the cover has been removed or the button on the bottom of the sensor is being pressed. Most alarm equipment has a built-in tamper switch to deter unauthorized interference. When the panel reports a tamper trouble condition, it usually means the sensor casing is loose or the back clip has been removed. This occurs most frequently after changing device batteries. Troubleshooting Sensor Tampering Make sure the button on the sensor is not being intentionally pressed. If the sensor persists in reporting a tamper after attempting the troubleshooting above, please reach out to our support team for further assistance.…Read More -
Water Leak Detector False Alarms
It is important to regularly test and maintain all system sensors. A low battery or abnormal damage to the sensor can cause irregular activity. If It’s a Flooding False Alarm Verify that your sensor is not in an extremely humid environment. Residual humidity/water droplets over time can build up and potentially trigger false alarms. If this is the case, wipe down the sensor and relocate the sensor to a slightly drier location. Verify that the sensor is dry and the metal prongs on the bottom are not making contact with water. This will trigger an alarm. If It’s a Freeze False Alarm Verify that your sensor is in a climate-controlled environment. If it’s outside and exposed to the weather it can improperly detect when critically low temperatures occur for what you are looking to monitor the temperature. Relocate your sensor as necessary. If you have checked the above suggestions and the sensor continues to report false alarms, please reach out to our support for further assistance.…Read More -
Water Leak Detector Not Properly Triggering
If your sensor is not properly triggering, we recommend testing the sensor by tampering. To cause the sensor to report a tamper: Press down on the button located at the bottom of the sensor. If you are looking to test your sensor functionality (Flooding detection or environmental detection), please refer to this article. If your sensor is not triggering by performing a tamper, please reach out to our support team for further assistance.…Read More
