Smoke/Heat/Freeze Detector Tampering

Most alarm equipment has a built-in Tamper switch to deter unauthorized interference. When the panel reports a tamper trouble condition it usually means the mounting plate and the sensor are loose or not properly seated. This occurs most frequently after changing device batteries.

Troubleshooting Sensor Tampering 

  1. Make sure the sensor is securely seated to the mounting plate.

  • Smoke Heat and Freeze detectors with tamper issues: ask customer if they have the detector screwed to the ceiling. If so, it is probably too tight or too large of a screw, and is bending the plastic a bit, causing the tamper button to not get pushed in. I have explained where the tamper button is, so that they understand how it works and have them either loosen it a bit or use 3M tape instead
