Renaming a Sensor

The video above will show you how you can rename your sensors. This will be helpful if you placed the wrong window sensor on a window. If you, however, placed a window sensor on a door, you will read about swapping sensors.

Renaming Sensors

  1. Tap "Settings" (On the top right-hand corner of your panel)
  2. Enter in your four-digit master code
  3. Select "Sensors"
  4. Select a sensor type you wish to rename. For example, windows
  5. Select "EDIT" to the left of the X symbol to rename
  6. Select "Edit Name" found to the right of the current sensor name
  7. Select the new name and confirm

The sensor has been successfully renamed within your system

  • Just as a piece of feedback from a customer -- it would be nice if we could create our own names to label the sensors with (i.e. "Office Smoke Detector" or "Nursery Smoke Detector").

Lance Maxwell Thanks for the feedback. We will for sure take that into consideration in the future.

Our decision to go with pre-set sensor names fits 96-97% of scenarios.  Your situation must have been one of those 3-4 % scenarios.

    • Cove I think your list isn't as complete as you think it is. Why not just allow customizations?! It would be a lot easier than defending your list over and over. I think I've heard it a dozen times now in my two days as a customer...

    • Cove What are these scenarios you refer to. Many different people have many different situations. I can make your system work as built, but a custom option would definitely be a nice feature.

I understand you probably paid a couple of people for opinions, but your best opinion set will be from your users.

  • Just installed my Cove system and was quite impressed except for the lack of custom naming of sensors. No, the standard names offered are not sufficient. I would rarely provide feedback but this is an important issue in a large house.

  • How is everything is able to be named but you can't designate te key phobes. It would be great to know who armed or disarmed with the key phobe.

  • Please allow personalized naming of sensors. Your library of sensor names does not meet the profile of my locations.

  • I too would like to be able to personalize sensor names. I have 3 kids and I would rather hear my kids name so I know for sure which room it was, instead of having to remember which kid is bedroom 1, 2, or 3. Thanks

  • I'm late to the conversation, but everyone above is right. The pre-set names are not sufficient.

  • I agree this is a huge deal to me as children's room 1 etc, does not work for me either. I have 18 door and window sensors in my home as well as 4 motion sensors and other equipment and your profile does not fit me either. It cannot be that difficult as other companies do it.
