Moving to a new home is exciting — but it can also be overwhelming. The good news? Managing your Cove home security system during a move is simple, and you have options. Whether you want to take everything with you, bring just some equipment, or leave it all behind, we've got you covered.

Option 1: Take Your Cove System With You

Yes, you can take your entire security system to your new home! Cove is designed to move with you and we made it easy for you.

Before You Move

  1. Put your account on Test Mode Call Cove support to activate Test Mode. This prevents false alarms while you're disconnecting your system.
  2. Disarm and unplug everything Disarm your system and unplug the Hub. Wait 24 hours for the backup battery to fully drain before removing anything else. Then take down all sensors, your Touchscreen Panel, and any cameras.
  3. Label your equipment (optional but helpful!) Consider labeling each sensor with its location — it makes reinstalling at your new place much easier.
  4. Pack everything carefully Wrap your devices securely and don't forget power cords and mounting hardware.

At Your New Home

  1. Set up your system again Follow the original setup guide to reinstall your equipment. If you need help reactivating your system, our support team is happy to walk you through it.
  2. Update your address Log in to the Customer Portal and update your address under "My Account."

Option 2: Take Just Your Cameras and Panel

Only taking part of your system — like your touchscreen panel and security cameras? No problem! Here's what to do.

Before You Move

  1. Put your account on Test Mode. Call Cove support to prevent false alarms during the process.
  2. Remove your sensors from the system.
  3. Power down your Hub and Panel
Follow the same steps from Option 1 to safely shut down your Hub and Touchscreen Panel.
  4. Uninstall and pack your cameras
Carefully remove your security cameras and pack them with their cables and mounting hardware.

At Your New Home

  1. Plug in your hub and touchpad and wait for a connection.
  2. Reinstall and test your cameras. Need a setup guide?  Find your camera here for step-by-step instructions.
  3. Update your address in the Customer Portal.
  4. Need new sensors? You can purchase additional door sensors, window sensors, motion detectors, and more through your Customer Portal or by calling our support team.

Option 3: Leave the System Behind, Start Fresh at Your New Place

If the new homeowner wants to keep your system — or you'd rather start over at your new place — here's how to wrap things up cleanly.

Save Your Video Footage First

Before resetting anything, make sure to save any video clips you want to keep:

  • Open your camera's app (Cove, Eufy, Kami, Skybell, etc.)
  • Download any clips to your phone — cloud recordings are typically saved for 7 days

If your camera has an SD card, remove it and save the footage to a computer before inserting it into a new camera (it could be reformatted and erased)

Reset Your Cameras for the New Owner

Different camera models have different reset steps:

  • Kami Camera: Hold the reset button for 5 seconds
  • Kami Doorbell: Remove the front cover, then press and hold the top button until the LED turns white
  • Skybell Doorbell: Hold the button for 60 seconds until the LED flashes yellow
  • Eufy Camera: Remove the camera from your Eufy app — this automatically triggers a factory reset

Transfer Service to the New Homeowner
  1. Go to portal.covesmart.com and update your address under My Account
  2. Call us so we can help transfer monitoring service to the new homeowner smoothly
