What to Do If Your Panel Shows “A/C Power Loss”
If your Cove panel is showing a “Power Loss” message, don’t worry—your security isn’t compromised. Your panel includes a built-in backup battery that will keep you protected for up to 24 hours during any power outage. Once power is restored, the battery recharges automatically; no action needed.
What Causes a Power Loss?
A few things can cause your panel to stop receiving A/C power:
- A tripped circuit breaker
- A power outage in your area
- A loose or unplugged power cord
- A faulty transformer (plug)
- A damaged wall outlet or GFCI outlet (the ones with reset buttons)
- Issues with the panel’s power terminal
How to Troubleshoot It Yourself
Here’s a quick checklist to help you restore power:
-
Check the Plug
Make sure the panel’s transformer is securely plugged into the outlet. -
Test the Outlet
Plug something else (like a lamp or phone charger) into the same outlet to confirm it’s working. -
Check for a GFCI or Switch-Controlled Outlet
If the outlet has a reset button (GFCI), press it.
If it’s controlled by a light switch, make sure the switch is on. -
Inspect the Power Cord
Look for any visible damage or loose connections. -
Check the Panel Terminal
Look at where the power cord connects to the back of your panel. Is it securely attached? -
Flip the Breaker
Head to your home’s circuit breaker panel and ensure no breakers have tripped. If they have, flip them off and back on. -
Check for Area-Wide Power Outage
Confirm if there’s a known power outage affecting your neighborhood.
Pro Tip: Make sure your panel’s power cord isn’t connected to an outlet behind heavy furniture or one that's easy to accidentally unplug.
