Installing Door Sensors
Your Step-by-Step Guide to a Quick & Secure Setup
Before you install your door sensor, make sure it has already been added to your alarm system. Once that’s done, you’re ready to go!
Where to Install Your Sensor
Our sensors are designed to work in the most common home entry points:
- Swinging Doors
- Sliding Doors
- Double Doors

Best Practices for Placement
Swinging Door
- Magnet: On the door’s top corner opposite the hinges
- Sensor: On the molding above or next to the magnet
Sliding Door
- Magnet: On the sliding panel, top corner opposite the stationary panel
- Sensor: On the frame above or beside the magnet
Double Doors
- Magnet: On the center strip (mullion)
- Sensor: On the active door
Got decorative molding or crown trim? You can reverse the pieces—put the magnet on the molding and the sensor on the door.
Alignment Tips
- Line up the semi-circle markings on both pieces
- Keep the gap under 1 inch (ideal: ¾ inch)
- It's okay to mount the pieces at a 90-degree angle if they're still within range

Avoid These Installation Mistakes
To ensure your sensor works reliably, do NOT install it:
- In garages, sheds, or non-climate-controlled areas
- On the hinge side of a door
- On metal or aluminum surfaces
- With the sensor and magnet more than 1 inch apart
If you need to install on metal, use the included plastic spacer or magnetic tape for best results.
How to Install Your Sensor
- Clean the mounting surfaces (door and frame)
- Peel off the adhesive backing
- Align the magnet and sensor using the guide above
- Press firmly and hold each piece in place for 30 seconds
- Test your sensor from the control panel to confirm it's detecting correctly
