Testing Your Motion Sensor's Detection
To test the movement element of our Motion Sensors, it is important to first understand the technology involved. If you are verifying that the sensor is signaling properly, you can trigger a tamper signal on the device by pressing the button on the right side of the sensor (The Alarm Panel will announce the name of the sensor, followed by the word "tampered"). Checking Tampering and Motion Detection From the Alarm Panel If you’d like to test that the sensor is signaling to the Hub: Set the Alarm Panel to “Disarm.” Press the button located on the side of the Motion Sensor. This will cause the Alarm Panel to report for a few seconds that the Motion Sensor is experiencing a tampered condition. A yellow bar will appear on the bottom of the screen and in the sensor status on the “Security” menu. If you’d like to check that your sensor is detecting motion: Set the Alarm Panel to “Disarm” Pull up the Security Menu on the Alarm Panel. Navigate to “Motion” and pull up the Motion Sensor you’re testing on the screen. (You may want to bring our Alarm Panel with you to view the screen while testing your Motion Sensor). Walk around the room with the Motion Sensor for 4 minutes. The Motion Sensor has a cooldown window of 3 minutes between signals so as you walk around the room, it will pick up the motion during that duration of time. That Motion Sensor indicator on the screen will turn orange and display that motion is being detected. Testing Your Sensor Using “Away” Mode You can also test your Motion Sensor by setting your alarm system in “Away” mode. When attempting this test, we recommend reaching out to our support team to place your system on a "Test" Mode to prevent any false alarms. Arm your system in “Away” mode. Before triggering an alarm, ensure your phone is available and you remember your verbal password/safe word. You will need it to cancel any potential dispatch that could happen when you trigger your alarm.…Read More -
Adjusting Your Motion Sensor's Sensitivity
By default, Motion Sensors will not detect warm bodies (including pets) under approximately 30 lbs. To Adjust Sensor Sensitivity for Pets Open the back of the Motion Sensor Remove the PET pin covering the 55 lbs jumper Place the PET pin on the 33 lbs jumper Understanding Your Motion Sensor's Sensitivity By default, Motion Sensors are set to a HIGH sensitivity, so they will be triggered more easily than if set to LOW sensitivity. To change this setting: Open the back of the Motion Sensor Remove the SENS pin covering the HIGH jumper Place the SENS pin on the LOW jumper It is important to keep in mind, a 10 lb cat 40 feet away from the sensor will not set off the sensor, however, that same cat 10 feet from the sensor will cause the sensor to go off.…Read More -
Changing Your Motion Sensor's Battery
If you have received a Motion Sensor Low Battery notification on your Alarm Panel, you will need to replace the battery promptly to ensure the device continues to function properly. Information to order replacements can be found in our article, How to Order Replacement Batteries. How to Replace Your Motion Sensor Battery Disarm your Alarm Panel before you begin this process Open the Motion Sensor by pressing in on the recessed tab at the bottom of the sensor and pulling the case toward you to remove the sensor from the base plate. (If there is a screw on the bottom of the sensor, please unscrew it.) Pay close attention to the orientation of the (+) and (-) sides of the battery. Place the new CR123A battery in the sensor. Replace the sensor on the base plate To ensure that your Motion Sensor is functioning properly, press the tamper button on the side of the sensor to trigger a tamper. The alarm panel will report when a tamper has occurred. The tamper alert will clear on its own.…Read More -
Motion Sensor False Alarm
It is important to IMMEDIATELY address any sensor trouble conditions as they occur. A low battery, loss of supervision, or abnormal sensor behavior can cause false alarms. Troubleshooting False Alarms Check the sensitivity jumper on the back of the sensor, and decrease sensitivity if needed Verify that your sensor is installed in a climate-controlled environment, not outside or in a non-climate-controlled shed or garage. Verify that the sensor is not facing a window (the sun can heat up the window and may trigger your Motion Sensor) Make sure that large animals are not setting off the Motion Sensor (we suggest using Glass Break Sensors instead of Motion Sensors if you have large pets) Replace the battery (Battery Type: CR123A) If you continue to encounter false alarms coming from that sensor, please reach out to our support team for further assistance.…Read More -
Motion Sensor Tampering
The Motion Sensor has a built-in tamper switch to deter unauthorized interference. When the Alarm Panel reports a tamper trouble condition, it usually means the mounting plate and the sensor are loose or not properly seated. This occurs most frequently after changing sensor batteries. Troubleshooting Sensor Tampering Make sure your sensor is secured to the mounting plate (you may remove and re-attach the sensor to the plate to ensure it is secured correctly). Verify that the button on the side of the sensor is not being inadvertently pressed (this will cause a tamper condition to trigger). If your sensor continues to report tampering, and you have ensured proper sensor alignment, please reach out to our support team for further assistance. If your motion detector is tampered while your system is armed in stay mode it can cause an alarm to be triggered.…Read More -
Motion Sensor Loss of Supervision
If your Motion Detector reports a loss of supervision, it means that the sensor is not signaling to the Hub. Please refer to this article for further information.…Read More -
Motion Sensor Not Responding
If your sensor is not triggering properly, we recommend testing the sensor. Please note: Your Motion Sensor will only trigger every 3 minutes unless you are using the tamper button on the top right-hand side of the sensor. If your sensor still is not working after following these steps, please reach out to our support team for further assistance.…Read More
