How It Works - Smoke Heat Freeze
Table of Contents
This device is more than just a smoke alarm — it’s a life-saving sensor that detects smoke, dangerous heat levels, and freezing temperatures. Even when your system is disarmed, this sensor remains active and alert to keep your home and loved ones safe.
Unlike traditional detectors, this one alerts both you and our monitoring station the moment danger is detected.
Recommended Placement
To maximize protection, we recommend:
- Placing at least one detector near bedrooms
- Adding one detector on every level of your home
- Prioritizing this sensor in homes with limited mobility or health concerns, where a fast response time is critical
Smoke Detection — How It Works
This feature detects particles in the air, signaling smoke before flames are visible.
Avoid placing near:
- Air vents
-
Drafty areas
These can interfere with accurate readings and delay alerts.
Heat Detection — How It Works
The detector triggers a HEAT emergency when the following pattern is detected:
- A fixed temperature of 125°F or higher for 3+ minutes (considered a HEAT Event)
- A 10°F temperature rise in under 1 minute (considered a HEAT Event)
- If 3 heat events occur within 10 minutes, the alarm sounds
Freeze Detection — How It Works
The detector also watches for freezing temperatures, which could signal pipe damage or unsafe conditions.
A FREEZE emergency is triggered when:
- Temperature drops to 41°F or lower for 3+ minutes (considered a FREEZE Event)
- A 10°F drop in under 1 minute (considered a FREEZE Event)
- If 3 freeze events happen within 10 minutes, the alarm activates
