How It Works - Glass Break
Table of Contents
Glass Break detectors are designed to listen for the specific sound frequencies made when glass breaks, cracks, or shatters. This means your system can catch intrusions that other sensors might miss.
These sensors use a built-in microphone — so where you place them matters.
Where Not to Place
Because hallways rarely have glass and can create echoes or false triggers, we don’t recommend installing this sensor in a hallway.
Best Places to Use
These detectors work best when placed:
- Within 15 feet of glass (in an unobstructed line of sight)
- In rooms with large glass doors or multiple windows
- Near non-opening windows or crank-out windows (roll-out style)
The sensor can “hear” across a wide area — just make sure there are no major barriers in the way.
Test Mode
To test your glass break sensor:
- Press and hold the button on the side of the sensor for 3 seconds
- The sensor will enter test mode (refer to the light indicators below)
