Alexa and Cove Connect Troubleshooting

Connectivity

For issues with connectivity between the Cove Connect App and Amazon Alexa, go through these steps to try and resolve the issue. If they are having issues only with voice commands, skip to the bottom.

Restart the device

  • Unplug your device or the power adapter from the power outlet. Then plug it back in.
  • For devices with removable batteries, remove and reinsert the batteries to restart the device.
  • Disable skill - When you no longer want to use a skill, select the Disable option. Or say, "Disable (skill name)."

Remove the Alula Skill

  • From the menu, select "Skills & Games.
  • On the next page, scroll down until you see “Your Skills” at the bottom.
  • Select “Alula.”
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Select “Disable Skill.”
  • Select “Disable.”

Add the Alula Skill

  • Download and log in to your Alexa App.
  • Select “More” on the bottom right of the App.
  • On the next screen select "Skills & Games
  • Search "Alula."
  • When you find the Alula skill, select it, and then press “Launch.”
  • A window will pop up where it will ask for your Username and Password.
  • Please Enter your Username & Password for the Cove Connect App.
  • After it says you have successfully linked, select “Close.”
  • The next page will list the Alexa Devices connected to your account, select the devices you want to be linked to the Security System, and then select “Launch.”
  • If you skip out of this page by accident, just select “Launch” on the Alula Skill page and it will bring up your list of Alexa Devices that you can link to your Cove Connect System.

Alexa is not Understanding Commands

Ask Alexa what she just heard. You can say "Alexa, tell me what you heard" to find out what it thought you said. If it misheard you, try again and be clear and concise with your pronunciation to leave little room for misinterpretation.

Alexa requires specific wording and phrasing to understand the commands. These are very word-specific and all of them follow a pattern. This is what it looks like:

  • "Alexa, tell/ask My Security System for Status.”
  • “Alexa, tell/ask My Security System to Disarm.”
  • “Alexa, tell/ask My Security System to Arm Stay.”
  • “Alexa, tell/ask My Security System to Arm Away.”

Alternate Speech Options

To see what options are available you can ask your Alexa to show you your system by saying:

"Alexa, Open My Security System"

  • “Alexa”: gets the attention of the Alexa device.

  • “Open My Security System”: This requests Alexa to link to the Cove Connect System.

After it responds by asking what you would like to do, you can then respond with:

  • “Arm Stay"
  • "Arm Away"
  • "Disarm"
    • Provide your pin code audibly when prompted.
