Door/Window Sensor Frequently Asked Questions

  • 11 mths ago

How it Works

These sensors consist of two components. The larger piece is the sensor that communicates with the panel, and the smaller piece is a magnet.  The sensor detects the magnet; if the magnet is too far away from the sensor, the sensor reports that the door or window is open. These sensors are typically used to protect exterior doors and windows and will chime/announce when they are opened.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I avoid placing my Door and Window Sensors?

  • We recommend NOT placing the sensor in the following locations:
  1. With the pieces spaced more than a ½ inch apart

  2. On a door or window that does not open

  3. On an area of window trim that will receive direct sunlight (this is especially important for the larger sensor as it can overheat)

  4. On a metal or aluminum surface (could interfere with or weaken the magnet)

What should I do if I need to place my sensor on a metal surface?

  • If you must place the sensor on a metal surface, we recommend the following:
  1. Using a spacer to mount the sensor

  2. Using magnetic tape to mount the sensor

What is the difference between a Door Sensor and a Window Sensor?

  • The same Hardware is used for our Door and Window Sensors. Door Sensors have a default entry delay time of 30 seconds, so they will not immediately trigger when opened, while the Window Sensors trigger immediately after a window is opened.

Please note: At least one Door Sensor must be triggered during the exit delay countdown when arming in “Away” mode. Otherwise, the system will arm in “Stay” mode.  This setting is known as “Auto Stay,” and is enabled by default. If you wish to disable this feature, please contact our support team for assistance.
